Hedda Tesman (nee Gabler). Recently married to local scholar and historical researcher Jorgen Tesman. Hedda was always the most coveted girl in town, as her beauty and elegance captured the hearts of nearly all the young men in the area. When she finally decided to settle at age twenty-nine, Hedda gave her hand to Jorgen in marriage, much to the chagrin of others in the town.

Hedda's father was a colonel in the military, and her most valued possessions are his two antique pistols. One of her favorite ways to pass the time is to practice using these valuable old guns. Boredom is the bane of Hedda's existence; during her youth she was always entertained by young suitors, and she certainly grew used to having the attention on men heaped upon her. Indeed, it suprised many when the young sophisticate wedded Jorgen, a somewhat studious man.

Our first introduction to Hedda occurs as she awakens to her first morning in her new home with Jorgen.
