"The Escape" is presented by special arrangement with David Brin

In this version of the classic confrontation between a man and the Devil, author and Caltech alum, David Brin constructs an irreverent and fantastical nether world. The protagonist, Polo, is a self-described "lapsed scientist and literary meddler" who wisecracks and spars his way through his encounters with Satan, resisting the contract offered, by turning the rhetorical tables on the "Big D," as he calls him. Chaos, self-examination, and pain follow, consequences which may even reach the Almighty Himself (or Herself?). Why not see for yourself how Brin spins his tale?

Please Note: masking in all indoor settings, with the exception of instructional spaces, will be voluntary effective Monday, October 3, 2022.

This change to the Institute's campus masking requirements, as first outlined in a September 1 community message, aligns with local public health directives and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
