Moby Dick - Rehearsed
By Orson Welles, Adapted from Herman Melville
Directed by Will Ahrens
A troupe of actors sets aside a rehearsal of King Lear to take up a poetic adaptation of Melville's iconic seafaring novel, evoking parallels between the mythic, mad Lear and the obsessed Captain Ahab. Each is a ruler whose fixation threatens to destroy him. In Ishmael's narration of the play, we are quickly plunged into the frightful world of the whaling ship Pequod and its fearsome denizens. At times Ahab shows flashes of the exemplary captain he once was. But inevitably the ocean rages, and Ahab's relentless pursuit of the ghostly white leviathan leads to a terrifying, cataclysmic end.
