Local Theater

• The Furious Theatre Company is a creative nonprofit organization in residence at the Pasadena Playhouse.
• A Noise Within is an acclaimed classical theatre company in Glendale presenting productions of Shakespeare, Moliere, Shaw, Chekhov, and classic American playwrights.
• The Knightsbridge, founded in 1992, is situated quite conveniently in the heart of Old Town Pasadena, in the Historic Braley Building (and even more conveniently across from Lucky Baldwins!). The host a suite of classics while also promoting new works and artists.
• The Pasadena Playhouse is Pasadena's oldest theatre, restored in 1986 and now continuing its history of quality theatre.
• The Sierra Madre Playhouse has been newly renovated and is great little community theatre to participate in both as performer and audience member.
• The Subterranean Theatre Company is located in Hollywood at the McCadden Place Theatre. This company strves to "explore the unique human experience of live theatre", and performs creative adaptations to classical works.
• Alternative Repertory Theatre is a small professional theatre in Santa Ana, performing a variety of good original work.
• North Coast Repertory Theatre is based in Solana Beach, north of San Diego, and focuses on original works and neglected works of literary merit, which address classical and contemporary social issues.
• Theatre Americana is a local group where many TACIT alumni work. They have been producing original American plays for 63 years and always are looking for audience, scripts, actors, directors and crew. Plays are at Heicher Hall of the Altadena Congregational Church, corner of Lake and Altadena; and the theatre can be reached at: Theatre Americana, P.O. Box 245, Altadena, CA 91001. (626) 683-1740.

Schools in LA

• UCLA has a well-respected Theater, Film, and Television Department as well as a Design Studio
• USC boasts a highly acclaimed Film Department.
• The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (West) is the only professional acting conservatory in Pasadena, boasting a training history of over one hundred years.
• The Drama Department at UC Irvine is exceptional, ranking 12th in the nation for performance programs by ARCO.
• CSU Northridge has both BA and MA programs through its Department of Theatre.
• Local Occidental College has an adequate theatre program, but is more well known for its strong music department.
• Pasadena City College is a local (across the street from Caltech) inexpensive community college that offers 2-year programs in theater arts, music, and speech.
• LA Community College is another inexpensive community college spanning 9 campuses in and around LA, and focuses a great deal on the entertainment industry.
• UCSD has a department of theatre and dance, offering BA and MFA programs in all aspects of theatre. UCSD's department works alongside the La Jolla Playhouse.

Other Theater

• LA Stage Alliance provides information on theatre events in and around LA.
• The Center Theatre Group is LA's premier company, based at the Mark Taper and Ahmanson Theatres in downtown LA.
• Experience LA is an all-around resource for events in and around LA.
• Auditions.net is a free online actors resource.
• Moonstruck Drama Bookstore has gizillions of plays and musicals, with tidbits of info about authors and shows. The plays are for sale, however, via Amazon.com, but you might find that hard-to-find play nonetheless!
