Pinnipeds on San Miguel

There are six species of pinnipeds on San Miguel: Harbor Seals, Stellar Sea Lions, California Sea Lions, Elephant Seals, Guadalupe Fur Seals and Northern Fur Seals can be found in abundance on San Miguel Island. Point Bennett is home to many 10s of 1000s of the pinnipeds and you may see a few up close on the beach in Cuyler Harbor itself. The good folks at the Marine Mammal research station on San Miguel study these all year around.

Pinnipeds as far as the eye can see at Point Bennett, about a mile from the Research station

The surf is just as spectacular as the seals

This one was lazing just a few feet from us

And they dont seem shy about intermingling

Simonton Cove has a bunch of them too - but you have to be on a boat/kayak to see these

And this one was right there at the beach landing spot in Cuyler harbor

The buoys between Ventura and the islands are also good social spots for sealions
