========================================================================

THEORETICAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS

THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

The Department of Physics of The George Washington University has an
opening for a Visiting Assistant Professor in theoretical nuclear
physics, starting September 1, 1996. This is a non-tenure-track two-year
position which requires a Ph.D. plus additional postdoctoral experience.
The individual selected will be expected to conduct a research program
in theoretical nuclear physics and to teach courses at the undergraduate
and/or graduate levels. The holder of this position will be expected to
collaborate in the activities of the Department's Center for Nuclear
Studies and should have experience and demonstrated competence in one or
more of the following areas: CEBAF-related medium- and high-energy
nuclear physics, QCD in nuclear systems, and relativistic approaches to
nuclear systems.

Each applicant should send a curriculum vitae and a one-page statement
of research interests, and have three letters of reference sent to
Professor C. Bennhold, Chair, TNP Search Committee, Department of
Physics, The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. 20052 [fax:
(202) 994-3001; e-mail: bennhold@gwuvm.gwu.edu]. Review of
applications will begin on January 16, 1996 and will continue until the
position is filled. To assure timely consideration, complete
application materials should be received by this date. The George
Washington University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action
Employer.

THEORETICAL CONDENSED-MATTER PHYSICS

THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

The Department of Physics of The George Washington University has an
opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in theoretical
condensed-matter physics, starting September 1, 1996. Candidates must
have demonstrated research capabilities, have the ability to generate
and lead a group effort, and have a strong interest in teaching at both
the undergraduate and graduate levels. We seek a person with a Ph.D.
plus additional postdoctoral experience who can attract outside funding
and collaborate with experimentalists and theorists in our
interdepartmental Institute for Materials Science. Research
productivity in superconductivity and/or magnetism is essential;
experience in surface-interaction or band-structure calculations is also
desirable.

Each applicant should send a curriculum vitae and a one-page statement
of his or her research/career goals, and have three letters of reference
sent to Professor H. Haberzettl, Chair, CMP Search Committee, Department
of Physics, The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. 20052
[fax: (202) 994-3001; e-mail: helmut@gwuvm.gwu.edu]. Review of
applications will begin on January 16, 1996 and will continue until the
position is filled. To assure timely consideration, complete
application materials should be received by this date. The George
Washington University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action
Employer.

EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS

THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

The Department of Physics of The George Washington University has an
opening for an Assistant Professor in experimental nuclear physics,
starting September 1, 1996. We seek a person for this tenure-track
faculty position who will be creative and innovative in both research
and teaching. We offer opportunities to teach both large and small
classes, as well as to mentor individual students, at both undergraduate
and graduate levels. This position is intended for a person having
several years of experience in experimental nuclear physics beyond the
Ph.D. degree. The holder of this position will be associated with our
Center for Nuclear Studies and will be encouraged to join our program of
research at the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility in Newport
News, Virginia. Prior experience in medium-energy nuclear physics,
electromagnetic interactions, and/or few-body nuclei is essential.

Each applicant should send a curriculum vitae and a one-page statement
of his or her research/career goals, and have three letters of
reference sent to Professor B.L. Berman, Chair, ENP Search Committee,
Department of Physics, The George Washington University, Washington,
D.C. 20052 [fax: (202) 994-3001; e-mail: berman@gwuvm.gwu.edu].
Review of applications will begin on January 16, 1996 and will continue
until the position is filled. To assure timely consideration, complete
application materials should be received by this date. The George
