A) Feasibility: Personally, I believe USTC people are more enthusiastic
than any other schools in such matters. We should have
many alumni who are willing to contribute some time and
money.
B) Long term: I think We should set up a bylaw and a system for a foundation.
Then we know how to campaign for money each year, and how to
spend the money. Also I believe we should invest the rest fund
after giving scholarship to new students. I think we can also
use some of this fund as loans to assist new Ke-Da graduates
going broad.
C) Short term: I think we need two or three volunteers from each area
and let them call local alumni to raise money.
Likely we can get $10-$20 from each person being called.
Together, it is a big amount money, quite enough for
new students' scholarship.
D) Right now: If you are willing to help, please email me your information
and send a message to chinese@cauchy.math.udel.edu with
subject " signon ustc.fund ". After we get enough people
and discuss the matter, we will then call local people for
money. In USTC-DIR, we can find (by option p) people from
each area. I list all area codes below with the number of
alumni in each area (the count is not completely correct
as some people's home and office phones having different
area code). But once we start to call people, we can ask
the person called other phone number he/she knows.
Also our campain should not be limited inside USA. Many
people in Europe and China are in USTC-DIR too who have
email addresses.
