London Assurance by Dion Boucicault

Directed and Introduced by Joshua Zeller

The foppish Sir Harcourt Courtly travels from London to Oak Hall to claim his betrothed bride, the charming young Grace Harkaway. Grace's late father left his fortune as her dowry, but only if she consents to marry Sir Harcourt, which she has done, sight unseen. But when the gleeful, horse-and-hound-loving Lady Gay Spanker joins the party, Sir Harcourt becomes too enamored with her to notice that Grace is falling in love with his son Charles, who has arrived under a false name. Myriad merry mishaps ensue in this light-hearted comedy of manners. Its success in 1841 was the first of many by the playwright Dion Boucicault, the Irish genius of London theatre in the age of Dickens. Come see how his characters, in all their glorious absurdity, make this play a delight.

Please Note: masking in all indoor settings, with the exception of instructional spaces, will be voluntary effective Monday, October 3, 2022.

This change to the Institute's campus masking requirements, as first outlined in a September 1 community message, aligns with local public health directives and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It also responds to improving trends in COVID-19 case activity on campus and in the local community.

Please note that while the Institute will no longer require masking in all indoor settings or at large outdoor events, all members of the Caltech community who wish to continue to wear a mask are encouraged to do so. Please see the Caltech Together website for more information.
