Postdoctoral Scholarship for Experimental Research in Materials Chemistry with Brent Fultz

Dept. of Applied Physics and Materials Science

Applications Due: December 2, 2019

The materials science program at Caltech invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position with a new research project on materials for chemical energy storage. The materials are modified carbon- and graphene-based materials with promise for reversible storage of lithium, hydrogen, or methane. The materials will be evaluated in battery electrodes and/or in systems for gas storage. Tasks include materials synthesis, and materials characterization by methods such as high resolution electron microscopy, x-ray diffractometry, and spectroscopies. Electrochemical properties and gas-adsorption isotherm will be measured. The successful candidate need not have experience in all these topics, but a solid understanding of materials thermodynamics is essential. The duration of the appointment is one year, with a start date Jan. 1, 2020, an annual stipend of $55,000. Reappointment is possible, subject to performance and availability of funds.

Electronic copies of your curriculum vitae with publication list, brief (<1 page) statement of research interests, and three letters of recommendation are required. Review of applications begins on December 2, 2019. Applicants are encouraged to submit all materials by that date, but later applications may be considered. The appointment is contingent upon completion of a Ph.D. Please email the c.v. and statement to btf@caltech.edu with the Subject Line "Postdoc Application Energy Materials". Please ask for your letters of reference to be sent the same way.
