Hello all, Greetings from Amnesty International Group 22 (Pasadena/Caltech)! We hope all of you are staying well in in these uncertain times. Group 22's last regular meeting was our Letter Writing session at the Caltech Athenaeum on March 10, and our last newsletter was sent on March 25. We didn't do an April newsletter, and at this point we are not sure whether we will do one for May. Individual members of Group 22 are trying to follow the AIUSA website's motto DISTANT BUT TOGETHER. Group Coordinator Kathy put together a list of Urgent Actions for April. She reported that the Group 22 Letter Count for April was a total of 37 written letters and 30 emails. Five of the letters were to Iran (UA 40.20) on behalf of Narges Mohammadi and other political prisoners who should be released due to COVID-19. Kathy's list of Urgent Actions for May is now on our Group 22 website at http://www.its.caltech.edu/~aigp22/current_ua.html At https://amnestyusa.org you can find news and actions about human rights and COVID-19. And while you are there, check out the Virtual AGM, a series of Zoom panel sessions April 20 - May 28. Registration is free, and recordings are available for most of the series. I particularly liked the one on April 30, Human Rights Defenders Around the World and How You Can Support Them. https://www.amnestyusa.org/take-action/events/amnesty-internationals- 2020-annual-general-meeting/ Our Book Group meetings at Vroman's in Pasadena have been cancelled. Book discussions are usually the third Sunday of the month. Our selection for May was "The Remainder", a novel by an author from Chile, Alia Trabucco Zeran. If you are interested in discussing this book, please contact aigp22@caltech.edu. Peace and all good, Kathy, Stevi, and Joyce --------------------------------------------------------------------- Amnesty International's mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights.
