Announcements

·         Problem Set 5 has been handed out on March 1. It is the last problem set and is due on March 18 before 5 PM.

·         New notes for Part VII have been handed out and posted on March 8th. The notes list useful references and summarize important concepts without giving all details except for the part on introduction to the quantum Hall effect.

·         Many topics described in the class for Part VI are not available in the reference books, and I do not have time to type all things up for those who do not come to the lectures. For those of you who do not show up in class, the following reading material should help even though they do not cover everything that I mentioned in class: [1] J. M. Ziman, “Principles of the Theory of Solids”, Chapter 8; [2] C. Kittel, “Quantum Theory of Solids”, Chapter 15.

·         Office hours are scheduled for every Wednesday from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Downs 404.
