HEADLINE: NIKE STORE SET FOR TORONTO; Brief Article

BODY:
TORONTO -- Nike Canada -- the Canadian arm of the athletic footwear and apparel giant -- will open a 30,000-square-foot store here on trendy Bloor Street later this month.

The three-level unit is scheduled to open in this city's Yorkville section on July 29. The store will share the sidewalks with such high-end shops as Chanel, Tiffany, Louis Vuitton and Plaza Escada in a block known locally as "the mink mile."

Breaking from tradition, Nike Toronto will not resemble NikeTowns, a Nike spokeswoman said. Known for their entertainment-like retailing, NikeTowns feature interactive and futuristic displays, while the Bloor Street store will have a more subdued ambience. An entire sales floor will be devoted to women's apparel, the spokeswoman said.

The Toronto store will also be the first unit to have an area dedicated to ice hockey apparel, skates and accessories.

The company plans to open additional stores under this format. The next one will open in Melbourne, Australia, in November.

In other news, Nike has made a series of executive changes.

Juliet Moran has been promoted to vice president and global brand director for running, and Mike Wilskey promoted to vice president and global brand marketing director.

Based at the company's corporate headquarters in Beaverton, Ore., both executives report to Andy Mooney, global vice president of brand management.

Moran's appointment demonstrates Nike's plan to build teams that focus on specific categories.

Last month, Nike named Gordon McFadden president of its new business unit for All Conditions Gear. Most recently, McFadden was president of Helly Hansen's North American division.

Howard White has been named the first vice president of sports marketing for the Jordan brand. He reports to Larry Miller, president of the Jordan brand.

White was most recently director of Nike's athlete relations department where he managed relations with several high-profile athletes, including Jordan.
