NIKE TO CONTINUE INVESTING IN INDONESIA: MANAGER
DATELINE: JAKARTA, June 5
BODY:
US shoe company
Nike is continuing to invest in Indonesia despite the recent riots and considers
that the situation has gradually returned to normal, a company manager said.
However,
Nike expects the government of Indonesia to take immediate appropriate steps to
accelerate the restoration of situation in Indonesia, said the Country
Manager of
Nike Inaternational Ltd, Tony Nava, in Serang Tuesday.
"We are still commited to investments in Indonesia," he said.
"At present Indonesia supplies 29 percent of Nike shoes all over the world," said Nava." I think President BJ Habibie has also started taking appropriate steps to
recover the economy," he said.
He pointed out that Nike was not
rejecting business opportunities in Indonesia, although recognising that at
present many businessmen are adopting a wait-and-see attitude about the
situation in Indonesia.
"How and when the situation in Indonesia will be restored depends on Indonesia
itself, not foreign investors," he said.
