• February, drove from Athens(GA), passing six states (AL, MI, LA, TX, NM and AZ), to arrive in Los Angeles(CA).
• April, went on a camping trip to Jushua Tree National Park with lab members and wormbasers.
• August, spent a weekend in San Diego.

2002

• July, went to Florida with my parents. Visited Orlando, Clearwater, Everglades(a mistake), Key West and St. Augustine.
• August, got my Ph.D. In retrospect, three things helped me to survive the five year journey towards the degree.
  1. Touring around in Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas;
  2. Fishing occationally;
  3. Camping in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park every fall.
