Welcome to WEST events:

student/ postdoc/ faculty lunches more info |
Monthly lunches with faculty are held in small groups and require an rsvp to WEST. These lunches are designed to provide women undergrads, graduate students, and postdocs with the opportunity to interact with women faculty members in an intimate and non-threatening setting. Past dialogues have encompassed such topics as picking a scientific question to address, starting out as a new faculty member, dealing with low female to male ratios in the lab, and balancing family and research. Lunches are publicized by flyers posted around campus. If you wish to participate in a lunch, please let us know; we can email you with info about the next upcoming lunch. |

Forums more info |
The second type of event sponsored by WEST is the monthly Open Forum. Open Forums are open to all members of the Caltech community, and are designed to promote spirited dialogue on a particular topic -- particularly those topics which might not come up during the normal course of interaction on the Caltech campus. Our upcoming Forum, to be held this Thursday, May 23, from 7-8 pm in Baxter Auditorium, is entitled "A Conversation with President Baltimore." |

WEST
|
WEST continues to strive towards building a stronger community of women at Caltech and to create a dialogue about diversity issues throughout the Caltech community. The WEST Art Exhibit & Wine and Cheese Social. featured the artwork of nearly 30 Caltech women and was attended by over 400 people . The event helped demonstrate that Caltech women are multifaceted. We are not only good at science but many of us are also phenomenal artists. |

Social and Networking Events more info |
One of WESTs primary goals has been to help women at all levels of their scientific careers to network with each other. These social and networking events foster a community outside of the lab and classroom where women can share their experiences, learn from each other, have an opportunity for informal mentoring as well as just relax and, hopefully, find that they are not alone at Caltech. One example of this type of event, is the WEST Art Exhibit & Wine and Cheese Social. Other extremely successful networking events include the Welcome BBQ held for all women members of the incoming 2002 graduate class and a mid-year "Cookie Exchange" open to the entire Caltech community. We are currently launching a number of other gatherings to provide regular meeting opportunities throughout the year. |
