After a long hiatus, the Webmasters Forum meetings have returned! Starting in January 2007, we are now scheduled to meet on the third Tuesday of each month in Room 239 Moore. We plan to have a specific discussion topic or presentation each month but these should be short and leave plenty of time for more general discussion so feel free to bring questions on any web-related topic. If you would like to join the group, please sign onto our very low trafic mailing list: https://utils.its.caltech.edu/mailman/listinfo/citwebforum This group is open to all who have a role in a Caltech web site - from programmers to content provider to users. Please join us.

September 16, 2008
Last week, Caltech's Electronic Media Publications group announced
the availability of its new website template. Features include a
built-in content management system, search functionality, the
ability to customize your "look" by adding your own home page
images, and other features. The template was designed to make it
easy for you to set up your new site and add content (including
pictures) without having to use Dreamweaver or Photoshop, and
without needing any knowledge of HTML. Once created, you can
easily access your site at any time to change content, create new
pages, or rearrange your site navigation.
This week's meeting gave everyone a chance to see the final
version of the template and ask questions before signing
up.
Hosting for the sites will be provided by IMSS's Managed
Hosting service for $15 per month.
February 17, 2009 Open discussion.
March 12, 2009 This month's webmasters forum will discuss social networking platforms. Are they good tools for communicating with your target audience? If so, how should you be using them? If you are using social networking tools on your sites, please come and tell us how. If you are considering them but have some concerns, this would be a good place to discuss that too.
September 17, 2009 This month's meeting will be a start of the year get aquainted meeting.
October 15, 2009 This month's webmasters forum will discuss using the Caltech Authors database to produce publication lists. Kathy Johnson, metadata librarian for the Caltech Library, will join us to answer questions and provide suggestions about how to effectively use this resource.
