AMATEUR RADIO LICENSE

CLASS & FCC EXAM

BoafengClass will take place Friday, November 17 (7 to 10 PM) and Saturday, November 18 (8 AM to 4 PM), in Annenburg 105.  Friday evening is for people without a technical background.  The Saturday class will systematically go through the question pool.

Instructors will be Pat Cahalan, W9PSC, and Kate Hutton, K6HTN.

Students should read the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual 3rd Edition before class (available from Amazon.com or at the Ham Radio Outlet in Burbank -- Important!  Don't get an older edition).

License testing will begin at 5 pm; cost $15 (if you pay for an exam and pass it, the next level exam is free!).  Applicants may test for any level.

THE FIRST TEN REGISTERED CALTECH UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS WHO SIGN UP, COMPLETE THE COURSE, AND OBTAIN AN FCC AMATEUR RADIO LICENSE (OR LICENSE UPGRADE) ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE A FREE BAOFENG UV-5RV2+ 144/440 MHZ HANDHELD TRANSCEIVER WHEN THEY JOIN THE CALTECH AMATEUR RADIO CLUB (CITARC).

The order of eligibility for the BAOFENG radios will be determined by the order of class reservations. Contact K6HTN@ARRL.net to reserve a seat. When you make your reservation, make sure you let Kate know that you are a CIT undergraduate. Radios will be issued contingent upon your new or upgraded FCC amateur radio license appearing in the FCC database and our receipt of your completed CITARC application.
