Tap dancing is named for the tapping sound made when the small metal plates on the dancer's shoes touch a hard surface. This lively, rhythmic tapping makes the performer not just a dancer, but also a percussive musician. Tap shoes are not required for this class. This class (8 sessions) will start at a beginning level, and may allow for more intermediate-level work later in the term, depending on the skill level of participants. It will be taught by Caltech Alum Kris Barkume, who has taught beginner-level classes and choreographed pieces for the Caltech Dance Show (most recently a tap piece) for years. This class is FREE to all members of the Caltech community! Mondays 7-8pm (begins 9/6) in a Catalina Rec Room (TBD, please email for details).
