Membership Restrictions

Facilities availability and insurance liabilities set certain eligibility requirements for our classes. Classes offered in Braun or Brown Gymnasium are only open to members of the Caltech community with gym memberships and/or valid a Caltech ID. Please consult Caltech's Athletic's webpage for information about becoming a gym member.

Age Restrictions

Caltech Dance Troupe's classes are intended for adults**. However, depending on each individual child's comfort level in attending adult classes, children 13 and older are welcome to take part in our courses. Any classes held in Braun or Brown Gym are subject to gym regulations. Caltech Athletics requires that all those entering the gym, including children, must be gym members or pay a guest fee and be accompanied by a member. Furthermore, children 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. If your child is interested in dance but does not meet these requirements, please consider bringing them to an age-appropriate class at a local studio. ** CDT offers Fun with Movement, a children's dance class, in the summer. In the past we have aimed the class towards children 4-6 years of age. If you wish to receive information about this class, please e-mail the troupe with "Fun with Movement" in the subject line.

What should I wear?

CDT does not have a dress code regarding leotards, tights, etc unless otherwise specified by the instructor. We strongly suggest wearing comfortable gym clothes that will not inhibit your movement. Layers are always a good idea. We also do not require specific footwear, but the right foot gear can make a difference. Here is the recommended footwear for our various classes:

Ballet: socks or ballet slippers

Jazz or Hip Hop: Tennis shoes that don't leave marks or Dance Sneakers

Belly Dance: barefoot

Fees:

CDT classes are generally supported with ASCIT and GSC funding which allows us to offer a discount to Caltech students. All others are subject to non-student fees. Class taught by a professional teacher are paid for by class fees. As in all other professionally taught classes, The Dance Troupe can not honor refunds for missed classes.

Can I take CDT classes for PE credit?
