Academic Interests, History, and Affiliations

Mathematical Research Interests

  • General mathematical research interests: analysis, especially problems that involve one or more of real analysis, functional analysis, probability theory, optimization and dynamical systems.
  • The development of uncertainty quantification methods for complex systems that are both mathematically rigorous and computationally and physically practical. Topics of research include the theoretical foundations of uncertainty quantification and methods including optimal uncertainty quantification, concentration-of-measure inequalities, and data-on-demand versus legacy data techniques.
  • Analysis of rate-independent processes and elastoplasticity, especially the justification of rate-independent processes as scaling limits of rate-dependent processes and the effects of coupling elastoplastic systems to heat baths.
