Why join Caltech's chapter of Tau Beta Pi?
Caltech's chapter of Tau Beta Pi has had varying levels of activity in recent years. Our goal now is to make the organization more active by doing things that will be helpful for its members. New ideas for activities are always welcome.
Based on the idea of a former Tau Beta Pi president, one project we would like to pursue is the creation of a resume book of Tau Beta Pi members. Recruiters often prefer to have prescreened lists of resumes, and some companies will be interested in paying money for such a resume book since Tau Bata Pi members are often held in high regard in industry. The creation of such a resume book would be beneficial to Tau Beta Pi members, since it would increase career opportunities, and to the club, which could earn money from the sale of such a book.
Another idea we would like to pursue is to increase networking opportunities for Caltech engineering students. This could include inviting guest speakers from regional companies or former Caltech alumni. These types of events would be very helpful for students to learn about different industries, career opportunities, and research topics and to personally meet the people involved.
In addition to local campus activities, the national Tau Beta Pi organization also provides significant benefits. As a member, you will receive a quarterly newsletter about current issues in the engineering profession. More importantly, you will also be eligible to apply for TBP fellowships and scholarships. Several Caltech students have won fellowships in recent years. Tau Beta Pi also has a national convention every year, and our chapter can send one member to this convention with all expenses paid.
