Projects:

Tissue self-organization in plants

Many plants can regenerate an entire new organism from single somatic cells. In tissue culture the ratio of two plant hormones, auxin and cytokinin, determine the type of multicellular structure regenerated. Our goal is to understand the molecular mechanism by which plant cells self-organize into patterned tissues from disordered cells grown in culture. We focus on self-organization of the Arabidopsis shoot meristem. Through live imaging of fluorescent reporters we are able to visualize gene and protein activities within cells during the self-organization of cultured cells into patterned shoot meristems.
