Director's Note

Emma Joseph is a third-generation member of a far-left radical family of Stalinists and Marxists, as well as a brilliant social and political activist in her own right. Proud of this heritage, she is following in the footsteps of her famous grandfather Joe who stood up to, and was blacklisted by, the McCarthy Hearings, for defending the unjustly accused. But when Emma learns her grandfather may not have been the hero she knew, she is forced to confront her family and the "truth" in a desperate personal struggle to reconcile her ideology.

Set in New York, After the Revolution delves into the complex and changing attitudes of political ideology in the United States and our attempt to balance safety with freedom. These issues are explored through a compelling look at multi-generation family dynamics and how we must face and accept the imperfections in those we love. As Emma's father Ben tells her, "You're disappointed in your family. It's terrible, I know. But, Emma, this is not an uncommon predicament."

After the Revolution is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
