One Dimensional Maps - Instructions

Parameters

a,b	Parameters of the map functions
Compose	Number of times map function is composed or iterated each step
Transient	Number of iterations to eliminate transients before plotting
Delta-x	Timeseries: small difference in two initial conditions
Start-x	Initial value for x
Points	Spectrum: no of points used for FFT
Window	Spectrum: type of window used in calculating power spectrum
Bins	Histogram: number of subdivisions of x range

If you change a text entry, you must hit Enter or Return on the keyboard or Restart within the applet for the change to take effect.
The slider changes the speed of the iteration. Setting the speed too high may make the applet unresponsive or crash, depending on the Java implementation. A slow speed is appropriate to watch the iterations. However you will usually want to increase the speed for the other diagnostics.
Show Time: switches continuous update of number of iterations. Some Java implementations have an annoying screen flash if set to "Yes".
On most of the plots a mouse click within a running plot will display the coordinate values of the point. For the "Timeseries" a mouse click will start a new iteration from that point. Dragging the mouse on a stopped plot will reset the scale to the outlined region, allowing finer detail to be seen. Hitting Reset or clicking the mouse outside a stopped plot will restore the default range.
