I love designing websites. The only reason I don't simply churn out endless sites is because they would all be blank: I have nothing interesting to say. Although it is fun to make a webpage simply for the novelty, it is better to create a page that fufills a well-defined purpose. There are lots of possible purposes your website could fufill:
- To list your favorite links, for yourself or others
- To describe yourself to people who don't know you
- To communicate with friends or family
- To chronicle daily events
- To record important events
- To join a community that shares your interests
- To share information on a subject you know well
Do you want just one page, or several pages linked together? Do you want it to load as fast as possible, or would you rather have very nice graphics? How often are you going to update it? Do you want other people to be able to find it easily, or will you hand out the URL to a select few?
One very popular webpage format is the blog, or weblog. Blogs are basically online journals that allow you to make seperate entries daily (or weekly, or whenever you have something to say). These are a particularly good way to keep people up-to-date on your life, and can be an interesting way to express yourself. You can make them introspective or chatty, or include drawings, poetry and music in your posts. Be warned, however, that a blog that isn't updated is a blog that won't be read!
