I completed my undergraduate degree in engineering at the
University of Toronto.
My Bachelors of
Applied Science and Engineering
degree was in
Aerospace Engineering under the
Engineering Science
Program.
I did my undergraduate research in fiber optic sensors at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies My research was with the Fiber Optic Smart Structures lab under Professor Ray Measures.
My undergraduate thesis was with a relatively new company called ElectroPhotonics Corporation that originated from the lab around the time I was there in '89-90. I studied bending loss in optical fibers. They're a bunch of cool guys who've been doing pretty well since then as far as I know. My friend Tino (the big boss, president of the company) sends me stuff every now and then to keep me up to date on what the company's doing. Who knows, maybe one day I'll go work there. (Got to finish the PhD first though)
Warning This page hasn't been updated in several years so current research information is seriously incorrect/out of date. Try going here which may or may not be more recent.
Now I'm a third year grad student at
Caltech in the
Division of Engineering
and Applied Science studying towards a PhD degree. I work for
Amnon Yariv
in the
Applied Physics Option studying
Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) and Photonic Bandgap
structures. You can read about our group here.
Plus a bunch of other things. I work very closely with
Dr. Axel Scherer and his students. You can read about his group
here
Maybe someday I'll have the time to type in everything we work on here.
I run our Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) system for epitaxial growth of
AlGaAs alloys to support out groups optoelectronics research.
I'll end up spending lots of time soon in the clean room running the
MBE to grow semiconductor materials. But, we've installed a network connection
in the clean room so that I can waste even more time.
