Name of the Organization

  • The Hong Kong Student Association at the California Institute of Technology, also known as Caltech HKSA (hereafter, referred to as the Association)

Purpose

  • The Association is to promote:
    o Connection between Hong Kong members of the Caltech and JPL community
    o Culture and image of Hong Kong to the Caltech and JPL community
  • The Association is a non-political organization.

Membership

  • Student Members
    • Current Caltech students (undergraduate or graduate) who are interested in Hong Kong-related issues are eligible to join the Association as student members.
  • Non-Student Members
    • Those currently working at Caltech or JPL (e.g. as faculty, staff, post-doctoral fellows, SURF fellows, etc) who are interested in Hong Kong-related issues are eligible to join the Association as non-student members.
  • Alumni Members
    • Those who were once students in Caltech or worked in Caltech or JPL are eligible to join the Association as alumni members.
    • Once a student member or non-student member leaves Caltech, he/she will automatically be converted into an alumni member.
  • Honorary Members
    • Those who have never been within the Caltech or JPL community but have made a significant contribution to the Association are eligible to join the Association as honorary members upon invitation by the Association.

The Executive Committee

  • Terms
    • The Executive Committee, comprising the President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Webmaster, shall be determined by an election. The term of office of the Executive Committee is one year from July 1 to June 30 of the next year.

  • A set of bylaws shall be set up by the Association for the operation of the Association .

Amendment

  • The members of the Association shall follow the Constitution and the Bylaws. To make valid amendments to the extant Constitution or the Bylaws, the Executive Committee shall organize a special meeting to discuss the proposed amendments with a student member quorum of twice the size of the current Executive Committee (inclusive), or six, whichever is greater. A two-third majority vote by the student members present in the special meeting shall ratify the amendments. If a student member is unable to attend the election, he/she should contact a moderator recognized by the Association to arrange an absentee ballot before the election.
