These molecules are responsible for the transmission of nerve impulses within cells, for shaping the wave form and frequency of nerve impulses, and for allowing the entry of Ca2+ which serves as an intracellular messenger. Our laboratory is presently studying a recently cloned family of hyperpolarization-activated cation channels (see annual report).
