You can write the .bkf file to a local drive, or to a mapped network drive. 0. If you are using Windows XP Home, you have to manually install the Backup utility via Ntbackup.msi. For instructions see, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q302894 1. Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|Backup If the window, "Welcome to the Backup or Restore Wizard", appears, click the URL, "Advanced Mode". 2. To create detailed logs of operations, select the the menu item, Tools|Options. Then click the tab, "Backup Log", and choose "Detailed". Then click OK. 3. In the main Backup Utility window, select the tab, "Backup". 4. Click to select the files and folders you want to back up. 5. To archive your data to a .bkf file, designate "Backup destination" to be "File". You won't have any choice if you don't have an attached tape drive. 6. Then in the text box, "Backup media or file name", specify the name of the .bkf file to contain the archived data. Specify the full path name, including the drive letter. 7. Click the button, "Start Backup". Select "Replace the data on the media with this backup". 8. Click "Start Backup". 9. When the backup is complete, you can view the logs by selecting the menu item, Tools|Report. 10. For additional documentation, select the menu item, Help|Help Topics. Tips It may be useful to remove temporary files using the Disk Cleanup utility prior to archiving folders located in C:\Documents and Settings. ---Pam
