Configuring HAL-LAB Network Printing in Windows XP

Here are instructions for setting up network printing in the Lester Lab under Windows XP.
  1. Logon to your computer with an account having Administrative rights.

  2. Download the current version of the HAL-LAB Network Printing Utility to your Desktop,

    The latest version updates the drivers for the recent location and naming changes.

  3. Close all applications.  Then double-click the halprnt.exe utility to run the program.

  4. Several dialog windows will appear during the installation.  Click OK at each occurrance.  The utility will remove obsolete lab printers, and then it will recreate these new entries:

  5. Open Start|Settings|Printers and Faxes.  For each printer, configure the security settings to enable all non-administrative users on your PC to be able to manage print jobs.  To do this, right-click on each printer, and select Properties.  Select the Security tab, click on Everyone, and click the box to Allow Permissions for Everyone to Manage Documents.

  6. Right-click on your favorite printer, and select Set as Default Printer.  Select a PCL printer entry for best overall performance and reliability.
