Fonck Here is a procedure for scheduling your Windows XP PC to automatically restart. Many other Windows tasks can be scheduled in the same way. 0. Logon to Windows XP with an account having Administrative rights. 1. Open Start|Control Panel|Scheduled Tasks. Note: If Scheduled Tasks is not visible in the Control Panel, click the link to Switch to Classic View. 2. Double-click Add Scheduled Task. Click Next to continue. 3. Under Click the program you want Windows to run, click Browse. 4. In the Select Program to Schedule dialog box, navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and click on the file, shutdown.exe, then click the button, Open. 5. Schedule the frequency of the scheduled task. Perform this task Daily Weekly Monthly One time only When my computer starts When I log on Click Next to continue. 6. Configure Start time: Start date: Click Next to continue. 7. Designate the username and password the task should run as Enter the user name: (default) Enter the password: (your password) Confirm password: (your password) 8. Click the box to select "Open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish". Then click Finish. 9. Click the Task tab. 10. In the Run box, specify the additional parameter for invoking shutdown.exe to be run in Restart mode. To do this modify the Run line to be, C:\Windows\system32\shutdown.exe -r Then click OK 11. You may need to reenter the username and password as in the previous Step 7. Then click OK. To edit the task at a later date, return to the Scheduled Task Control Panel, and double-click on the task. To delete the task, right-click on the task, and select Delete.
