The Lester Lab has six network printers.

The recommended method for printing under Windows XP is to use TCP/IP 
peer-to-peer networking to print directly to the individual printers.
An automated script is available for Windows XP for configuring printing
to all our printers in a single operation.

This script won't run under Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000.  However, for these
versions of Windows, our lab provides an easy alternative method for
configuring network printing by offering centralized printing services
through a Windows 2000 Server using Internet Printing.

This technology is especially useful for visitors and other users who do
not have Windows XP, but who can benefit from self-service configuration.
While this method will work under Windows XP, Windows XP users are
encouraged to use the more robust automated script method as mentioned
above.

To be able to use Internet Printing, Windows clients must have Microsoft
Internet Explorer 4.01 or later.  They must also be on the Caltech
131.215.x.x network, as Internet Printing has been restricted to this
network range. 

  Note:  The Internet Printing Service is incompatible with roaming
         profiles.  See the references below for more info.


0.  Windows NT/2000/XP users should skip ahead to step 1.
    Windows 95/98 users should download and install the Microsoft
    Internet Printing Client from,

1.  Run Internet Explorer to access the website,

    http://ampa.caltech.edu/printers/

2.  A list of available printers will appear.  Click the link
    for the printer you want to install.

3.  Click Connect to install, and follow the instructions.
