Subject:  Optimizing DiskCleanup for Speed Windows 2000/XP

It is possible to speed up the process of running Windows XP/2000
DiskCleanup by making a simple change to the Registry.

Use care when editing the Registry, as inadvertant errors may
result in non-recoverable loss of data and/or damage to the operating
system.


1.  Start|Run  
      Open Regedt32.exe

2.  Navigate to 
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
        Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress old files\Default

    This REG_SZ key has value, {B50F5260-0C21-11D2-AB56-00A0C9082678}.

3.  Archive this key, in case you wish to restore it later.  Then
    delete the key.
