Subject: Installing Axon pCLAMP6 Date: Wed Feb 18 20:56:33 PST 2004 From: Pamela Fong For MS-DOS, Windows 3.11, or Windows 95/98/ME: If there is no pre-existing version of pCLAMP on the computer, and if no other version of pCLAMP will be installed, start by installing pCLAMP6 (version 6.0.3) from the Axon floppy distribution, which is stored in a white envelope located on the shelf above Gastrocnemius in Kerckhoff 330A. Windows users should run the installation only after rebooting the computer into MS-DOS mode. If desired, Axotools 2.0.3 can be installed from the floppy distribution. After the installation, download the updated versions of these executable files from the Axon website, copying them into the C:\pCLAMP6 folder, overwriting the existing files. http://www.axon.com/pub/pclamp6/ batchplt.exe (version 6.0.6) clampex.exe (version 6.0.4) clampfit.exe (version 6.0.5.04) fetchan.exe (version 6.0.6.04) fetchex.exe (version 6.0.4) NOTE: If pCLAMP7 or pCLAMP8 will be installed, do not install pCLAMP6 from the floppy distribution. Instead, skip to the instructions below to install one of these later versions, and then update the executables as above, but copying the files to the appropriate PCL6DOS folder. In the case of a default installation of pCLAMP8, the target folder is, C:\Axon\pCLAMP8\PCL6DOS From Windows 95/98/ME, pCLAMP6 should only be run from the command line, and only when the computer has been rebooted to run in MS-DOS mode. For the Windows operating system adds complex timing and control issues which affect data acquisition by Clampex6. For Windows NT/2000/XP: If you have such a modern operating system, then there is little reason not to install a current version of pCLAMP. pCLAMP8 includes the pCLAMP6 installation. pCLAMP8 installs the pCLAMP6 executables into the directory, C:\Axon\pCLAMP8\PCL6DOS Just obtain the current updates of the pCLAMP6 executables as directed in the previous section, copying the updates to the appropriate PCL6DOS directory. Systems Administrators should check that users have permissions on the PC6DOS directory to be able to make changes to the configuration files. ---Pam
