Subject:  New ITS Web Utility to Change Password

Every ITS user has been issued two accounts:

  1)  Account in the Windows Active Directory domain named, ITS; and
  2)  Account on the UNIX cluster, which includes UNIX and Web based
      e-mail services.

The accounts names are the same for systems, but the passwords are
independent.  Because it is inconvenient to remember the separate
passwords, ITS created a web utility to give users an easy way to
synchronize the passwords between their two accounts.

To change and to synchronize the two passwords, open a web browser to,

  https://utils.its.caltech.edu

Logon using your current ITS UNIX username and (e-mail) password.  The
status of the account will be displayed on a webpage, which provides
links to make these changes:

  Change password
  Change email settings (forward, vacation, etc.)

It may take up to fifteen minutes for changes to take effect.

Passwords will remain synchronized regardless of which method is
used to change them:

  UNIX
    /bin/passwd

  HTTP
    https://utils.its.caltech.edu
