The single, quickest way to accomplish any scanning task is to use the HP PrecisionScan Pro package. Perhaps the most difficult scanning activity is optical character recognition (OCR). Here are three methods for converting a character-based image into text which can edited in a Word document. Method 1: Use the HP PrecisionScan Pro program 1) Start|Programs|HP ScanJet Software|HP PrecisionScan Pro 2) Scan|Preview 3) Select the area of interest with the mouse selection. 4) Output Type|Text 5) Use either of the following: a) Scan|Scan To b) Scan|Save As Method 2: Use the Microsoft Office Document Imaging program 1) Start|Programs|HP ScanJet Software| Microsoft Office Document Imaging|mspview.exe This runs the program, C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ MSPaper\mspview.exe. 2) File|Scan New Document. 3) Choose to scan the document with your preferred settings. 4) File|Recognize Text Using OCR. 5) File|Send Text to Word. Method 3: Use the OCR Button on the Scanner 1) Press the button on the scanner, which is labeled, OCR. 2) File|Send Text to Word. The five front panel buttons on the scanner are configured so that any scanning task can be invoked by pushing a button. The buttons are labeled on the front panel.
