The
mission of the Graduate Student Council Housing Committee is to promote
the ability of all Caltech graduate students to live in an affordable,
quality housing environment during their time at the Institute.
We
pursue this mission by
•
Monitoring the cost of living with respect to stipend levels, rent,
transportation, and other housing-related expenses and making recommendations
to the appropriate Caltech offices.
•
Encouraging the development of services to assist graduate students
who do not live in Caltech-owned housing.
•
Representing residents of Caltech-owned housing in Institute policy
decisions.
•
Proposing timely enhancements to the amenities of Caltech-owned housing
properties and to the services provided by the Institute Housing Office.
•
Serving as advocates for graduate students in the event of disputes
with the Institute Housing Office or Caltech regarding housing matters.
•
Ensuring that the needs of the graduate student population are included
in long-term strategy discussions and decisions made by the Caltech
administration and faculty.
•
Fostering relationships with Housing Committee analogues at peer institutions
to exchange ideas and to track Caltech’s level of competitiveness
in its housing support for graduate students.
•
Maintaining strong two-way communication with the Caltech graduate student
body to provide them with the facts they need to make informed housing
decisions and to remain aware of those housing issues they view as the
most important.
