The GSC Teaching and Mentoring Awards

Introduction

Each year the Graduate Student Council (GSC) recognizes professors for their excellence in teaching and mentoring. A large part of graduate students' education occurs outside the classroom, in addition to classroom teaching, the GSC honors outstanding mentors: those members of the Caltech community who show us the ropes, who support us through our exams and thesis defense, and lead us as we begin our careers. Additionally, the GSC also recognizes teaching assistants who have put in extra effort to help students through a class.

Nomination

Each year we need the help of the entire Caltech community to identify the two most deserving professors, one for excellent classroom teaching and another for outstanding mentoring to graduate students, and a fellow graduate student for being an excellent teaching assistant. You can easily make your nominations by either submitting the online form or printing the pdf version and returning it to Jai Shanata (MC 164-30):

1. Outstanding Faculty Classroom Teacher (online / pdf)

2. Outstanding Mentor (online / pdf)

3. Outstanding Teaching Assistant (online / pdf)

The nomination deadline is 5:00 PM on Friday, May 9th, 2008.
