Individual/Group of Friends

For one individual or a group of friends there are two options available for funding.

Quickfunding
The fastest and most easily available way to obtain funding from the GSC is quickfunding.  It is designed for

  • Events that cost less than $300

  • Unplanned events

  • Events that need a funding decision very quickly

  • Additional funding for previously sponsored GSC events

Some examples of previous events that used quickfunding are

  • Presidential debate watching party

  • Christian Center BBQ

  • NBA playoffs basketball party

Event Funding
Organizers of larger events (>$300) need to email the budget committee a proposal for event Funding.  Event funding is harder to obtain quickfunding and decisions may take up to a month.  There is no particular item of the GSC budget set aside for event funding.  It is designed for

  • Expensive events that will occur in a month's time

  • Events that will be popular with a large number of graduate students

  • Events that may become an annually funded event by the GSC

Some examples of previous events that received event funding are

  • Semena Latina

  • Caltech Postdoc Association Workshops

Official Club

For an official club there are three ways to receive funding from the GSC.

Club Funding
Each year the GSC gives 30 organizations about $15,000 in funding.  This is the largest budgeted amount of money the GSC awards each year.  Each organization submits their club funding proposal by September 1 and should receive a decision by October 15 on their proposal.  Club funding is designed for

  • Annually based funding.  The details of an event must be known before September 1 of the academic year.

  • Organizations that plan to run events over an entire year.

  • Expensive annual events that our associated with a particular club.

Examples of organizations that receive club funding

  • Caltech Biotech Club

  • Caltech Rugby Club

  • Caltech C
