History

In 1992, the GSC began recognizing excellence in graduate level teaching. As graduate students, we value professors who are able to teach to our level and successfully relate to students from diverse backgrounds. In 1994, we added a mentoring award to compliment the teaching award for those professors that displayed a commitment to the personal side of their student's education and steadfast guidance at the beginning of the student's career. Finally, we compliment our peers who are excellent teaching assistants. As much as any good professor, we want to reward our fellow students who are good, patient, knowledgable teachers.

The awards are presented at the June Faculty Meeting in conjunction with the presentation of the ASCIT Teaching Awards. Previous winners are excluded from consideration in the same category for a period of 5 years.
