Saturday, September 12, 2009 Cheryl Wheeler and Kenny White (Location at Caltech to be determined very soon) We'll let you know here as soon as things are confirmed (8:00 PM).

Admission is $20 for adults and $5 for Caltech students and children.
Tickets will go on sale in early April. At that time, advance tickets may be obtained from the Caltech Ticket Office. For information, call (626) 395-4652.

Cheryl Wheeler and Kenny White return to Caltech by popular demand. Cheryl is side-splittingly funny and can also deliver insightful and disarmingly poignant songs as well. She accompanies herself on guitar and is a great observer of the world. The word is that she has a new recording in the works, so there's a good chance there will be some new songs as well. Her songs include "Potato," a hilarious ditty about spuds, and Estate Sale, which combines humor and insight in a look at weekend phenomena of looking through the lives of the departed. On the more serious side is the beautiful, "Howling at the Moon." She's got a treasure chest of music, and there's no way of knowing which songs she'll share.

Kenny White is a savvy singer/songwriter/piano player/guitarist, who does a great job of backing Cheryl and presenting his own set of songs. He's amazing on the keyboards and his songs have a lot to say. He could easily headline a show of his own. When Cheryl and Kenny appeared here a couple of years ago, the show sold out a week or two before the night of the concert, so make your plans soon!

The Caltech Folk Music Society is a non-profit organization with all money collected going toward paying performers and for mailings and other expenses.

About the Caltech Folk Music Society...

The Caltech Folk Music Society was started in 1983 by graduate students Brian Toby and Simon Davies. The intent was to bring well-known performers of acoustic music from around the country, and around the world, to play at Caltech for a reasonable price. Long before playing "unplugged" became fashionable, the CFMS began to seek out a wide range of singer-songwriters, bluegrass bands, British Isles music, blues, Nueva Cancion, guitarists, and a whole array of other musicians that did not fit well into mainstream musical categories. While some of these performers emphasize elements of "folk tradition," others are boldly innovative and truly unique. Social activism, humor, and compassion are commonly present as well.

Concerts are held in beautiful Dabney Hall and occasionally in Winnett Student Center on a monthly basis. The CFMS is an informal group of students and volunteers from the local community who arrange and publicize these concerts. We publish a bi-monthly newsletter that includes an in-depth calendar of folk music concerts, folk dancing, and storytelling events throughout Southern California.
