Solar Decathlon - Caltech & SCI-Arc
2013 Competition: 2012-2013
Caltech and SCI-Arc's proposal has recently been accepted, so we are officially one of the 20 teams signed up to compete in the 2013 competition that will be held in Irvine, CA. Weekly meetings are usually at 1pm on Sundays in SFL-MCR room. For more information, please contact Andrew Gong at ajgong@caltech.edu.
2011 Competition: 2010-2011
**UPDATE: After two years of designing, prototyping, and building, a few weeks of taking the house apart, shipping it to Washington D.C., and constructing it there, and a week of competition at the National Mall, the Caltech/SCI-Arc Team came out 6th overall! We did very well, receiving 2nd in the Engineering Competition, 2nd in Home Entertainment, and 1st in Energy Balance. More about the competition at http://www.solardecathlon.gov/index.html. Also, CHIP, the Caltech/SCI-Arc house, is currently on display at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.
Please visit the official Caltech-SCI-Arc Solar Decathlon 2011 website for updated information about the project.
We formed a team with Southern California Institute of Architecture to participate in the Solar Decathlon 2011 competition. The Solar Decathlon joins 20 college and university teams in a competition to design, build, and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered house. People who signed up for the Solar Decathlon classes are required to attend each talk. A sign up sheet would be posted at each session. It is essential for you to attend each talk so you can gauge your interest in a particular aspect of Solar Decathlon, as you would be paired up with a SCI-Arc team. SCI-Arc students would also attend each talk. Master meeting schedule in year 2010 can be found here. For further information, please contact Fei Yang at feiyang@caltech.edu.
