New 2010-2011 Officials!

CIT - March 11, 2010 A new president has taken the reigns of club latino, following the long line of awesome people including Debrah Meloso, Angel Ruiz Angulo, Gustavo, Anna Salazar, Carlos Romero, etc. His name is Jose Mendoza-Cortes, and he has hit the ground running!

After successfully helping out CLASES with Semana Latina 2010 along with the Caltech Y, the Salsa Club, and help from our ex-president Ana, he is now organizing some fun filled World Cup Events! Snacks, drinks, and even some actual footie, this is sure to be a great month! And we look forward to everything else that is to come in the years ahead!

Notice the VACANCIES!!!
We want YOU!

We need volunteers to run the coffee club (send lame e-mails to the list whenever you feel like having half-priced coffee), and a newly created position of club archivist. The main mission of the archivist would be to transform the knowledge currently stored in Anna Salazars brain format into some digital format like excel or word.

NOW AVAILABLE!

Best of luck to our new leadership, and we look forward to an amazing year! And stay tuned for cool-fun things coming your way from Club Latino!

Latin-America
A word from our president:
Pasadena (June 10, 2010)

¡Hola a todos!
Latin-America is the mixture of all cultures: Natives, Asian, African and European under an almost uniform language (Spanish and Portuguese) and beliefs. Just as an example to proof this point, you can see the presidents and expresidents of different countries and their roots: D. Rousseff (president of Brazil and European descendant), A. Fujimori (expresident of Peru and Asian descendant), E. Morales (president of Bolivia and Nativeamerican descendant), L. Fernandez (President of the Dominican Republic and African descendant). So if you are willing to know more about all these mixtures you should join the club, it does not matter where you are from, just send us an email (latinosATcaltech.edu). You can be a staff member, a post-doc, grad student, undergraduate, ...

We currently have 195 members. Among them, Santiago Lombeyda has graciously accept to keep being our webmaster, while Esperanza Linares is becoming our treasurer.

One of the first event we would like to organize is to watch the 2010 Soccer World Cup and to have some soccer matches at the soccer field of the Braun gym.

We also have a facebook group that allow you to have another way of comnunication.

We hope to see you around in our events.

Viva la vida!

Jose L. Mendoza-Cortes
Presidente

Caltech's Club Latino is Google Number 1 Search Result
Pasadena (January, 2006) Caltech's Club Latino's web page has reconquered the number one spot as a search result on Google for "club latino". For the last trimester of 2005, the UK's web magazine "View London" review of "Upstairs at Ronnies" latin club had captured the number one spot, mostly for its countless links to random London night scene info pages.

For the two years prior, our Club Latino had the top result, except for sporadic intermissions when a german Latin Club in Postdam was posting pictures and movies of parties they were hosting, which earned them the number one spot.

Content such as our popular Semana Latina, and Semana Latina Art Exhibits (Espiritu and Dimensiones), as well as mutual hyper-linking to friends such as Caltech Salsa Club, and Tango Club (Argentine Tango Club, not to be confused with the less popular Chechnean Tango Club ; ) ), have earned us the number one spot again. "There is no gurantee we will keep the top result for long", Club Latino's webmaster told us, "but we will do our best to keep the content fresh and clean" he assured us.

2008 UPDATE: as of mid 2006, we are still "numero uno"!
2010 UPDATE: as of mid 2010, still number one baby!
