The Caltech Chess Club welcomes players of all levels and from all of the Caltech community. Whether you are an expert or a novice, you will enjoy our weekly meetings. If you want to learn to play better chess, there are always players willing to help you. Lectures by masters can be organized according to the interests of club members. The club has several expert and master members. The club actively hosts open chess events and simultaneous exhibitions in the Caltech community. In the past the Caltech Blitz Championship has been held in late Spring.

In its five years of existence, the Caltech Chess Club achieved many successes. The club has won the US Amateur Team West Chess Championship three times in the last five years, and has won the National Amateur Team Championship twice (see News). Caltech also defeated MIT's chess team in two online chess matches.

To join the club, send mail to chess-request@caltech.edu with the message "subscribe". You will be automatically added to the club mailing list. Membership is free and you may unsubscribe automatically at any time. If you have any questions, contact our Club Committee; for addresses, see below.

Simul Specials available for Caltech!

If your Caltech organization is holding an event and would like to have some spectacular chess-related activity, we can suggest our Simul Specials. In such an event, one of the the Caltech Chess Club's master players takes up the challenge of playing simultaneously against a large number of opponents. Anybody who knows the rules can join in challenging the master player. This usually attracts considerable public attention. So far we have held such simultaneous exhibitions, or simuls, for the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 prefrosh weekend club fairs, the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 International Students Programs orientation weeks, the 2003 and 2004 Graduate Student Council orientation weeks, and the 2004 End of Winter Term Party of ISP. We will provide chess sets ourselves. Mail the club president for more information.
