Your Caltech ID is enabled with a stored-value account called SmartCash. SmartCash is the easiest way to make purchases on and off campus. To use it, just deposit money into your SmartCash account online using your Visa or MasterCard, or send a check or money order to Campus Card Services at MC 1-52. Once you've made a deposit, your account balance will decline with each purchase you make. Your SmartCash balance even rolls over from term to term and year to year.

With the new addition of its SmartCash feature, your Caltech ID card is all you need to get through the day at Caltech. Your Caltech ID and SmartCash allow you to:

Access buildings all over campus, including Avery House, Millikan Library, and Sherman Fairchild Library
Use campus photocopiers
Do laundry without the hassle of searching for change
Eat at on and off-campus dining establishments

So use it to make some photocopies, do your laundry, and mail something from the on-campus post office. SmartCash is also accepted at some of Pasadena's most popular off-campus businesses.

How to get a CaltechCardTo obtain a CaltechCard, please bring with you one form of government issued photo identification (e.g. a driver's license, state ID, passport, etc.) and a copy of your class schedule, hiring documentation or appointment letter to the Card Office.

SmartCash is the convenient, cashless way to pay for your purchases on and off campus. To use it, simply deposit money into your SmartCash account and the balance will decline with each purchase you make. Also, unlike an ATM, SmartCash funds are not available for cash withdrawal.
