Molecular analysis of mitochondrial dynamics and membrane fusion

| | | |

Mitochondrial fusion can be directly assessed in mammalian cells by using polyethylene glycol (PEG) to fuse cells together. In a typical PEG fusion assay, two parental lines with differentially marked mitochondria (e.g., dsRed and GFP) are fused to form cell hybrids, and mitochondrial fusion in the hybrids can be detected and quantitated by fluorescence microscopy.
