News, Updates, etc.

Jan. 2011: First primary authored research paper published in Nano Letters, “Solar Cell Light Trapping Beyond the Ray Optic Limit.”

Dec. 2011: Music page heavily updated with new acoustic and generative music recorded in 2011.

Aug. 5, 2011: Presented an extended version of “A Portrait of the Scientist as a Young Artist” in an invited talk at a Curiosities event in Park City, Utah.

Jul. 2011:  Attended a summer school program on “Nano-Optics for Enhancing Light Matter Interactions on a Molecular Scale” at the Ettore Majorana Center in Erice, Sicily, Italy.

Jul. 2011:  Received award for 6th place finish in Nikon’s 2011 Small World Microphotography competition.


Jul. 2011:  2nd co-authored research paper published from within the Atwater group in the journal Advanced Materials, “Wafer Scale Strain Engineering of Ultrathin Semiconductor Crystalline Layers.”

Apr. 2011:  Wrote and directed a short film showcasing the research at the United States Department of Energy (DOE) funded Caltech Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) Light-Material Interactions in Energy Conversion (LMI). The short film was entitled “Light Matters” and won an award at the EFRC national summit for it’s “striking photography and visual impact.”


Mar. 2011: 1st co-authored research paper published from within the Atwater group in the journal Advanced Materials, “Light Absorption Enhancement in Thin-Film Solar Cells Using Whispering Gallery Modes in Dielectric Nanospheres.”

Feb. 2011: Founded the Caltech Generative Art Club, where we will be using computer programming to generate mathematics and science-inspired visuals (and audio) in a collaborative environment. Website coming soon...

Jan. 2011: On January 14th I will be giving a student talk at TEDxCaltech, an all day TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) event at Caltech laying vision to the next 50 years and honoring Nobel Laureate Richard Feynman. My talk is entitled “A Portrait of the Scientist as a Young Artist” and will outline the opportunities that scientists have to create unique works of art through the technologies that they use.
