» RESEARCH I am currently a quantum computation engineer at the Information Sciences Institute of USC. Seriously. I am also a Harvard Associate of the Aspuru-Guzik's research group at Harvard University. Part of my research consists in advancing the theoretical and practical applications of quantum annealing in general, and the D-Wave One quantum processor in particular. We are working with this processor at the new USC Lockheed Martin Quantum Computing Center at ISI.My research, in general, is related to quantum computation and quantum information. Topics I work on are:
I am also interested in the "energy problem": we can not go on using fossil fuels with the current largesse for much longer. For instance, I am working on estimating how much energy, money, and CO2 could be saved by painting most roofs of the South of Spain white (cool roof). Our paper in this topic has just been accepted in the journal Energy

» BIO I was born in Leon, a small city in Spain, but I have lived in many places. I have undergraduate degrees in computer engineering, philosophy, and mathematics. I did a Master of Physics at UAB and my Ph.D. in Physics at UNM, while also doing research at Los Alamos National Laboratory. I was a postdoc at the Institute for Quantum Information (IQI) at Caltech. IQI is located in the Center for Information Science and Technology, which brings together physics and information science. I am a Harvard Associate at the Department of Chemistry (at Harvard). In a past life I worked in software at the European Central Bank, I consulted for several other banks, and I was system architect at an Artificial Intelligence company. Lately I have come full circle. While I continue to pursue fundamental research, as a quantum computing engineer I am also trying to apply quantum annealing to real-world high profile practical problems where we can gain a critical advantage.
