1) Research positions are available.
Graduate (M.S. & Ph.D.) and undergraduate research positions are currently available. Any undergraduate student who wants to be involved in URP program is also welcome.
Our group focuses on the physics and engineering of light on a mesoscopic scale ranging from tens of microns down to tens of nanometers. In this regime, we can explore myriads of fascinating optical phenomena both theoretically and experimentally. My past and future interests include the following interdisciplinary topics (but not limited to): |
• Plasmonics: More specifically, surface plasmon-polariton cavities and
their miniaturization down to subwavelength-scale |
• Cavity opto-mechanics: Radiation-pressure-induced regenerative mechanical amplification or cooling
of an optomechanical micro- or nanocavity |
• Metamaterials: Pursuing novel artificial functionalities at optical frequency provided by the nanoscale fabrication, such as negative refraction or cloaking |
• Cavity quantum electrodynamics (cQED): cQED experiments with high Q/small V micro- or nanocavities |
• Silicon light emitters: Nanopatterned crystalline silicon or silicon nanocrystals and their application
to efficient silicon light sources |
• High-Q microcavity based optofluidic biosensors: High-Q on-chip optofluidic microcavities and their application
to optical traps and biosensors |
• Chip-scale frequency comb generation: On-chip frequency comb generation utilizing parametric oscillation
