Research Interests

My interest includes both fundamentals and application of light science and technology. More specifically, my Ph.D. training was on “non-Hermitian” photonics: I have developed novel photonic devices that are constructed by optical amplifiers (gain) and/or optical absorbers (loss) as the main building blocks. With a strategic manipulation of gain and loss in a device, I demonstrated counterintuitive phenomena that are not expected to be observed in traditional (Hermitian) optics.

In my postdoc training at Caltech I am excited to explore the field of biophotonics. I will be exploiting my knowledge for developing techniques and tools for imaging neurons and mapping the brain, with the ultimate goal of understanding the brain functionality.
